Postgraduate study in Citizenship Education

Is this course for me?

The course has been developed specifically for those teaching citizenship and for those in supporting roles, e.g. advisers and NGO workers. The intercultural approach is relevant to any national or international context of civics or citizenship education, and we have had students from all five continents. You will learn from your fellow students and personal tutor, and gain the confidence to put your new ideas into practice.

The programme builds on the UK DfES Certificate of Teaching of Citizenship. Those who complete this certificate gain automatic exemption from one optional module.

Short courses	All of the core and optional modules are offered as credit-bearing Short courses. This is an ideal option if you're keen to update your professional knowledge, enhance your career or sample the programme. The Short course fee per module is £1,000.

The course will:

• reflect on the meanings of key principles such as human rights, democracy, nationalism and identity

• discover how social, ideological and cultural issues interrelate with the teaching of history and citizenship

• engage critically with the best and most relevant thinking and research, and enable you to apply what you learn to your own working environment.

Comprehensive study materials and support

Working from your own home and/or place of work, you will access the Online Learning Environment (OLE) and will be guided through your study materials by your tutor. You will take part in discussions and activities within the OLE with your tutor and other students.
